Square-grid pattern, 80 × 80 cells, made on Chromattice.
M's and O's: a two-block texture weave. Where a block is woven, the ends work in fours and the cloth puckers into little ribs; where it isn't, it's plain weave. One shuttle, no tabby: towels and tablecloths. Block A 1-2-1-2-3-4-3-4, block B 1-3-1-3-2-4-2-4, two units a block. Treadles 1-2, 3-4, 1-3, 2-4. To weave A, alternate 1-2 and 3-4 (A ribs, B plain); to weave B, 1-3 and 2-4. Eight picks a unit, star fashion, into checks. Sett: as for plain weave, 8/2 cotton at 20 ends an inch (Jane Stafford: 16-20 for plain weave), and as many picks to the inch as ends, 20. Traditionally the weft is the same yarn and colour as the warp. On screen that would be blank, so here it's undyed grey on natural. Tip: wash it; the texture blooms when the cloth relaxes.
