Square-grid pattern, 64 × 104 cells, made on Chromattice.
Double weave: two layers of plain weave at once, each with its own warp and weft, here exchanged so the colours change sides. Threaded straight, 1-2-3-4, indigo on 1 and 3, natural on 2 and 4, one of each to a dent. Indigo on top: lift 1, 3, 1-3 with 2, 1-3 with 4. Natural on top: 2, 4, 2-4 with 1, 2-4 with 3. Eight sheds, so a skeleton tie-up: treadles 1-4 lift one shaft each, 5 lifts 1-3, 6 lifts 2-4, and the bottom-layer picks take two feet. Sett: twice the sett of one layer. Jane Stafford's four-shaft double weave kit sets 8/2 cotton at 32 ends an inch, 16 a layer; beaten to 16 picks a layer, 32 in all. The drawdown flattens both layers into one picture; in the cloth each band is solid.
