Wide-cell pattern, 60 × 120 cells, made on Chromattice.
Summer and winter: a block weave where every float is tied down, so the cloth is firm and reversible, dark on one side where it's light on the other. Block A 1-3-2-3, block B 1-4-2-4: shafts 1 and 2 the tie-downs, 3 and 4 the blocks. Rising, six treadles: tabby 1-2 and 3-4; A is 1-4 and 2-4, B 1-3 and 2-3. Woven in pairs, 1-2-2-1, star fashion, a natural tabby after every indigo pattern pick. Jane Stafford writes her tie-ups counterbalance style ("13 23 … those two weave A"); on a jack loom, lift the other shafts, as here. Sett: Schacht's sampler is 10/2 pearl cotton at 20 ends an inch, warp and tabby, with 5/2 pearl cotton for pattern. Beat a balanced tabby, 20 picks an inch; counting the pattern picks too, 40. Tip: one light and one dark to begin with.
