Square-grid pattern, 48 × 48 cells, made on Chromattice.
Straight 2/2 twill: each pick goes over two ends and under two, one end further along each time, so the cloth carries a diagonal. It drapes better than plain weave and wears well: suiting, blankets, towels. Threaded straight, 1-2-3-4. Tie-up: treadle 1 lifts shafts 1 and 2, treadle 2 lifts 2 and 3, treadle 3 lifts 3 and 4, treadle 4 lifts 4 and 1. Treadled 1-2-3-4 over and over. Indigo warp, natural weft. Sett: 2/8 worsted wool at 15 ends an inch. Schacht's chart gives 12-15 for twill, closer than its 10-12 for tabby. Beat to 15 picks, so the diagonal sits at about 45 degrees; a steeper line means you're beating too lightly. Tip: use a floating selvedge, or the edge end misses some picks.
