Taqueté: a weft-faced compound tabby. A binding warp weaves tabby and a main warp decides which of two complementary wefts shows on the face. It is ancient: the earliest known piece, a wool sample from Masada, dates from the 1st century BC. Block A 1-3-2-3, block B 1-4-2-4: binding on 1 and 2, main on 3 and 4. Four picks a pass: 1-3, 1-4, 2-3, 2-4. A pick shows where its main shaft stays down, so madder on the 4-lifts and tar on the 3-lifts gives madder blocks in A, tar in B. Swap the colours and the blocks change. Sett: very open, the weft packed in. Eva's taqueté rugs use 5/2 cotton tripled at 4 ends an inch, each end a bundle of three, and rug wool tripled at about 20 picks. Drawn weft-faced, the warp hidden. Checked against Isabelle Fusey on cnch.org ("Block A is threaded 1323 and Block B is threaded 1424") and Eva's Weaving (lifts, sett): https://cnch.org/?p=17492 and https://evasweaving.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/taquete-i-wove-rugs-on-a-summer-winter-threading/
