Square-grid pattern, 48 × 48 cells, made on Chromattice.
Basket weave is plain weave doubled: two ends work as one and two picks lie in the same shed, so the cloth is a checkerboard of little squares. Softer than tabby, good for towels, blankets and hems that shouldn't flare. Threaded straight, 1-2-3-4. Two treadles: shafts 1 and 2 together, and 3 and 4 together. Treadled 1, 1, 2, 2: two picks in each shed. Natural warp, walnut weft, so the squares read. Sett: basket weave floats over two, so it wants a little closer than plain weave. In 8/2 cotton it is set as for twill, 24 ends an inch (Jane Stafford gives 20-24 for twill, 16-20 for plain weave), and beaten to 24 picks. Tip: two picks in one shed don't lock at the edge, so use a floating selvedge. Checked against Flora Fiber's basketweave lesson ("the tie-up or treadling pairs the threads, for example, 1-2 and 3-4"; "the sett should be closer than for plain weave"): https://florafiber.live/blog/lets-weave-basketweave and https://janestaffordtextiles.com/products/8-2-cotton-1
