Square-grid pattern, 60 × 60 cells, made on Chromattice.
Shadow weave: a dark and a light thread in turn, in warp and weft, on a threading that shifts so each dark end has a light "shadow" beside it. The blocks come out as fine lines that turn and step. In Powell's letters (capitals dark, small light): A=1, a=2, B=3, b=4, C=2, c=1, D=4, d=3. Threaded AaBb three times (1-2-3-4), then CcDd three times (2-1-4-3), in turn. Tie-up 2-4 (A), 1-3 (C), 2-3 (B), 1-4 (D), treadles 1 to 4. Treadled as drawn in, dark and light picks in turn. Sett: Jane Stafford's four-shaft shadow weave kit is 8/2 cotton at 20 ends an inch. Beaten to 20 picks. Tip: two shades close in hue but well apart in value. Check them in black and white first. Checked against Weave-Away's review of Powell's book (notation, 12-34-21-43, tie-up 2-4, 1-3, 2-3, 1-4): http://weave-away.blogspot.com/2011/09/powells-shadow-weave-book.html and https://janestaffordtextiles.com/products/school-of-weaving-kit-s09e01-shadow-weave-further-explorations-4-shaft
